Overview

Many guests have been returning to Red Bank since 1992 when the Ballis’ began sharing their historic schoolhouse home. Sitting in beautiful Dry Valley, Townsend, Redbank offers a mountain and pasture Cades Cove-like view from its wraparound spacious deck and covered country porch.

A quarter mile up the quiet road is the border of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Hikers follow the Schoolhouse Gap Trail 3 miles to Laurel Creek Road , the main road to Cades Cove.

Side trails lead to Scott Mountain Trail, the Sinks, and the popular wildflower trail, Chestnut Top. Schoolhouse Gap Road itself is perfect for a morning walk, with misty meadows, roadside flowers, green mountains, farming activity and an occasional friendly passing vehicle.

At the house guests enjoy all the comforts of home – a wood-burning fireplace with its hand-built Foxfire chimney, a rich library of area interest for the whole family as well as films and music, and a new kitchen addition to please the cooks and non-cooks, too!

Traditional furnishings, schoolhouse history and artwork add a personal touch to this country home. Redbank’s gardens, lawns and shady trees attract birds in all seasons and provide lots of friendly space for fun and games.

The herd of cows across the road provides a constant source of entertainment from the deck or lawn swing.

A stay in this century old landmark brings frequent comments to the guest book like…”we leave rested and restored” …”an inspirational place” … “a vacation we’ll never forget” … and “we’ll be back!”
